GILBERT R. MONTOYA
Gilbert R. Montoya, 59, a resident of Los Montoyas, NM, passed way at St. Vincent Regional Hospital in Santa Fe on Wednesday morning. He was preceded in death by his father, Sigfredo Montoya; a daughter Veronica, and a sister, Mercie Montoya.He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rita of Los Montoyas; his mother, Clorinda Baca of Denver, CO; one son, Fred Montoya of Los Montoyas, NM; a daughter, Jessica Montoya also of Los Montoyas, NM; three brothers, Luciano Montoya of Albuquerque, George Montoya and wife Lucy of Rio Rancho, NM, and Pete Montoya and wife Jeanette also of Albuquerque; two sisters, Vangie Encinias and husband Eddie of Albuquerque, and Marla Garcia of Edgewood, NM; three grandchildren, George, Jonas, and Nicole Montoya and one great-granddaughter, Amor Corizon Esquibel.
He was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming on August 12, 1946 and married Rita Garcia here in Las Vegas on March 7, 1964. He was a carpenter by trade and assisted in the building of Pino's Truck Stop and Restaurant on N Grand Avenue. For 17 years he was a ranch hand for the Trigg ranch in Los Montoyas. He was a team roper and loved fishing and hunting. "We will miss his laughter", a spokesman for the family said.
Cremation has already taken place and services will be held at the San Antonio de Padua Church in Los Montoyas with a rosary Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. on Monday. The interment will follow in the San Antonio de Padua Cemetery in Los Montoyas, NM.
