The Mass of Christian Burial for Lucille R. Romero, 57, a resident of Las Vegas who passed away on Thursday at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, was celebrated this morning at 9:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Father C. John Brasher celebrated the Mass. The interment followed in the San Jose Cemetery with the following serving as pall bearers: Mary Ann Romero, Candy Castenada, Rachael Mares, Christine Casaus, and Theresa Flores. A rosary was recited Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Church by Lena Villegas.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jaramillo; grandmothers, Elvira Padilla and Estefanita Lujan and grandparents, Mena and Cayetano Lovato; a brother, Leroy Montano; and two sisters, Louise Lujan Pacheco and Lala Rael.She is survived by her husband Frank of Las Vegas; two daughters, Cynthia Romero Tenorio and husband Gary of Los Montoyas, NM and Tina Romero and companion John Maldonado of Las Vegas; four granddaughters, Joslynn Romero, a student at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces whom she raised; Charise Romero, Alicia Maldonado, and Briana Tenorio; two brothers, Ernest Montano of Las Vegas and Dennis Sandy of Socorro, NM; two sisters, Sylvia Montoya and Brenda Rogers and husband Billy all of Las Vegas, two half-sisters, Anita Lujan Garcia and Christine Lujan Gallegos and husband Art of Santa Fe; nieces and nephews: Bernadette Montoya, Frank Montoya and wife Norvella, Florentino Montoya, Christine Casaus and husband Donald, Becca Lefebre and fiancé Shawn Martinez, Orlando Lefebre, Carlos Sandy and wife Veronica, Denise Sandy Sanchez and husband Charles, Andrea Sandy, Mark Sandy, and Dennis Sandy Jr.; grand nieces and nephews, Isiah Montoya, Courtney
Sandy, Cameron Sandy, Carlos Sandy, Jr., Estevan Sanchez, Mequila Sanchez, Tammy Montoya; four god children, Sonia Romero, Rudy Gonzales, Courtney Sandy, and Savannah Montoya; special friends, Mary Ann Romero, Rachael Mares, Candie Castenada, Theresa Flores, Margaret Ortiz, Susie Romero Linda and Henry Sandoval, and Barbara Garduno. She was born in Las Vegas on April 15, 1949 and married Frank Romero in June of 1966 in Seattle, Washington, a union that lasted 40 years. She worked in the retail business for 25 years. A self taught bookkeeper she worked for Big O Tires, Mor-Value Trading Stamps for 12 years, Walgreens for three years, and also worked in the County Assessor's Office. She was president of the La Plaza Little League and was secretary-treasurer for the West Las Vegas High School Booster Club. Lucille enjoyed sewing and doing arts and crafts and most important, listening to KNMX Radio every afternoon. She loved politics and at one time was active in the San Miguel County Democratic Party.Arrangements were under the direction of Billy G. Rogers at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd., 425-9319.
