Lucille B. (Brangwin) Van Horn

Lucille B. Van Horn, 94, a resident of Las Vegas, passed away on July 21, 2018.  She was residing at the Meadows Long Term Facility.

            She was born on October 1, 1923 in Rockaway, New Jersey, the eldest of three children.  She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, after 58 years of marriage.  Her life was long and fruitful.  In addition to a Bachelor’s degree from Tusculum College in Tennessee, she completed a MA in Christian Education from McCormick Seminary in Chicago.  She worked in the New York headquarters of the Presbyterian Church in Indian Work Missions, prior to her marriage to Jack Van Horn in 1958. Their life together took them to Hobbs, New Mexico, Kermit, Texas, Roswell, NM, Jacksonville, IL, Portland, OR, and Las Vegas, New Mexico.  Throughout her lifetime, as long as her health would allow, she remained very active in the Presbyterian Church, teaching both Christian Education, and ESL. She held a special love for libraries, and volunteered at Los Ninos Elementary in the library, as well as the FUPC library.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Van Horn (07/17, 2016), her parents, and her brother.  She is survived by their adoptive son, Fred (Tony) Van Horn, their grandson, Brandon Van Horn, and three great-grandsons. She is also survived by her sister Betty Hilbert of Rockaway, NJ, and several nieces and nephews and their extended families.

            A Celebration of her life will be held on August 7, 2018 at 2 PM at the First United Presbyterian Church of Las Vegas.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First United Presbyterian Church to which she had devoted her life. Cremation has taken place and her cremains will be forwarded to the Restlawn Cemetery in Coffeyville, KS where she will be laid to rest beside her husband Jack.
