PEDRO V. GALLEGOS
The Mass of Christian Burial for Pedro V. Gallegos, 93, a life long resident of Villanueva, NM and who passed away on Saturday in St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe, was celebrated this morning at 11:00 a.m. from the Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe Church in Villanueva, NM. Father John McKenna celebrated the Mass. The interment followed in the Nuestra Senora de Talpa Cemetery in Villanueva with the following grandsons serving as casket bearers: Joe Gallegos, Jerry Gallegos, Tim Gallegos, Ricardo Gallegos, Peter Gallegos, Michael Gallegos, Bryan Gallegos, and Joseph Villanueva. Honorary casket bearers were his granddaughters: Patricia Garcia, Phyllis Gallegos, Julie Gonzalez, Marjorie Gallegos, Paula Gallegos-Perdue, Kathleen Aguilar-Rodriguez, Janice Aguilar-Jaramillo, Donna Ortiz, April Gallegos, D. Marie Gallegos, Judith Trujillo, and Jessica Villanueva. A rosary was recited on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. from the Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe Church by Rosa, Agneda, and Basilio Gonzales. The eulogy was delivered by Pete Aguilar, his son-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eutimio and Placida Villanueva Gallegos; a son, Pete Gallegos; two grandsons, Charles Gallegos and Kenneth Gallegos; and a great-grandson, Christopher Gallegos. He is survived by his loving wife, Josephine of 72 years of Villanueva; his children, Juan Gallegos and wife Carol of Villanueva, Eutimio Gallegos and wife Lorella of Albuquerque, Leroy Gallegos and wife Rosabel of Villanueva, Mary Catherine Aguilar and husband Pete of Santa Fe, Andres Gallegos and wife Delfinia of Taos, and Leora Villanueva and husband Leroy of Villanueva, NM; two brothers, Regino and Frank Gallegos and wife Aurelia all of Villanueva; a sister-in-law, Lola Flores of Villanueva; two brothers-in-law, Ramon Madrid and wife Thelma and Nick Madrid and wife Kay of Midland, TX; 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren: four great-great-grandchildren,; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends and neighbors. He was born in Villanueva, NM on September 22, 1912 to the late Eutimio and Placida Villanueva Gallegos. He was united in marriage to Josephine Madrid on March 12, 1934. In 1935 Mr. Gallegos and his wife opened up the Gallegos Cash Store in Villanueva and managed the store up until 2003. In addition to running the store, he was a farmer and rancher and was very active in the Democratic Party of New Mexico. He was a former San Miguel County Commissioner, was a board member of the West Las Vegas School System, was the director of Job Corps Program in El Valle, was a board member of the Mora San Miguel Electric Coop, was chairman of the North Side Community Ditch Association and helped establish the community well in Villanueva.He was a life long member of Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe Church in Villanueva as well as being mayordomos with his wife Josephine. He was instrumental in building a grotto for Our Lady of Guadalupe for the Villanueva community and he initiated the Stations of The Cross to the grotto. He was signaled out by President John F. Kennedy as being a community leader in El Valle and was instrumental in helping establish the Senior Citizens Center in Villanueva and also in setting up the leatherworks project in El Valle.
