Alvina Kathryn Schipper

Alvina Kathryn Schipper, age 88, a resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico since 2005, passed away on Tuesday, April 21 at home with family around her. She was born in Royalton, Minnesota on October 8, 1920 as the eldest of eight children of Joseph and Theresa Fischer. Alvina left Minnesota to pursue Nursing at St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing and completed her education with a Bachelor of Science at the University of Dayton, Dayton, Ohio. Professionally, she worked as a nursing educator and a surgical scrub nurse in Dayton before marrying Raymond Schipper in 1950 and raising a family of four children in Dayton. After the death of her husband in 2000 she resided at Grace Brethren Village in Englewood, Ohio for five years before relocating to New Mexico to live with family. Alvina will be remembered by her friends for the twinkle in her eye and the smile on her face. She will always be lovingly remembered by her children as smart, spirited and a woman before her time. She taught us to be independent, to use the gifts God gave us as fully as possible and to value family.
She is preceded in death by brothers Robert Fischer and Edwin "Butch" Fischer and sister Marie Bartell and by her husband, Raymond Schipper. She is survived by sisters Leona Mourad and husband George Mourad of Santa Barbara, California, Louise Shroyer of Pueblo, Colorado, Margie Duffey of Whitehall, Montana and brother James Fischer of Glendine, Montana; daughters Mary Schipper and husband Tom Trigg of Las Vegas, New Mexico, Kathleen McGehee and husband Michael McGehee of Rogers, Arkansas and Lois Schipper and husband Mark Ufkes of Seattle, Washington and son Mark Schipper and wife Kathy Canty of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held in memory of Alvina during the summer in the Snowy Range Mountains of Wyoming, an area she loved. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Alvina's name to the New Mexico Branch of the American Lung Association, 7001 Menaul Blvd. NE, Suite 1A, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
