AMELIA F. SANCHEZ
Amelia F. Sanchez, 67, a resident of Las Vegas, passed away at her residence on Sunday into the arms of her Lord and Savior surrounded by her loving family. Amelia, who was an heir to the Tecolote Land Grant, was born on January 5, 1938 to Juan and Abelina Beltran in Tecolote, NM. She married Joseph T. Sanchez, Jr., on December 6, 1958 in Las Vegas, NM. She was preceded in death ;by her parents, Juan and Abelina Beltran, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph T. Sanchez, Sr., and Antonia Dominguez Sanchez. Amelia is survived by her husband of 47 years, Joseph T. Sanchez and her daughter and sons: Cathy Gallegos and husband John of Las Vegas, Anthony Sanchez and spouse Kimberly of Alamogordo; Arthur "Tudy" Sanchez and fiancée, Rocky from El Rancho, NM; and Matthew Leonard Sanchez of Alamogordo, NM. Also surviving are her thirteen beloved grandchildren: Marcus Sanchez whom she raised, and wife Amber of Las cruces, NM; Lisa Gallegos of Las Vegas; Francine Gallegos of Colorado Springs, CO; Monique and Vanessa Sanchez of Albuquerque; Johnathan and Alyssa Sanchez of Alamogordo; Arturo, Amanda, Alica and Andrea Sanchez of Rio Rancho, NM, and Justin and Kendra Brophy of El Rancho, NM; five great-grandchildren, Matthew Sanchez Jr. of Opelousas, LA; Amelia "Abby" Sanchez and Brianna of Las Cruces, NM; Angel Lucero and Olivia Gallegos of Las Vegas.Sisters and brother surviving Amelia are: Consuelo Gallegos and husband Albert of Las Vegas and children: Victor Ortiz of Las Vegas and Felipe Gallegos of El Plano, TX; Susie Beltran and children Felecia Beltran and Julian Romero of Las Vegas; Felecita Beltran of Las Vegas and children Jose "Kelly" Beltran and wife, JoAnn and family of Los Lunas; Chris Beltran and wife, Claire and family of Memphis, TN; Joe I. "Chato" Herrera and wife Angela of Las Vegas and children Isaac Herrera and family; Geno Herrera and Maria Victoria Herrera. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law surviving Amelia are: Albert and Tillie Dominguez of Watrous, NM, Paul and Angela Sanchez of Las Vegas; Gilbert and Mary Sanchez of Aurora, CO; Toby and Irene Sanchez of Watrous, NM; Julia and Leroy Roy of Wagon Mound, NM; Bessie and Jim Madrid of Rio Rancho; Ernestine Sanchez and Antonio of Watrous, NM; Priscilla Archuleta of Watrous, NM; and Geraldine and Mark Martinez of Las Vegas, NM; Donald and Irma Sanchez of Watrous, NM; and many other nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.Amelia graduated from West Las Vegas High School in 1958. She attended NMHU and Luna community college and prepared herself to work in the field of education, retail and business. Amelia worked as an educator in the West Las Vegas Schools and in retail at Wackers and J C Penny. For a short while she and her husband Joseph operated the Stop and Shop Grocery Store on 2nd Street and Grand Avenue. As a young girl, Amelia worked as a soda fountain server at Coke Romero's Drugstore and as a cashier at Olivas 7-11 Store. When she retired, she was working in the Human Resource Department at the Walmart Stores, Inc.Amelia was a strong supporter of the La Plaza Little League in 1970 and 1980 when her sons and nephews and many of her young students participated in Little League. She was one of the parents who gave countless hours of support and work to participate in fundraisers for improvements at La Plaza ballpark such as lighting and grass covering. Amelia was the proud author of the famous song, "Padre Querido" which
was an instant success in the state as well as other states where Latino people are numbered. Her extraordinary likeness to First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy was always commented upon. Many close relatives and friends dubbed her, "La Jackie Kennedy".Amelia loved to work and improve her knowledge and capabilities. Her work ethics inspired her family and co-workers to achieve their highest goals and to never give up! She gave herself freely and without any expectations of recompense. In her later years, Amelia and Joseph enjoyed going to the Casinos. She dedicated her life to her husband until the very end. "Solamente la mano de Dios podra separanos, querido esposo."A visitation will be held on Wednesday in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd., from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited on Wednesday at 7:00 p. m from Our Lady of Sorrows Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Church with interment to follow in the San Jose Cemetery.
