ANDREW JOHNSON

Andrew Johnson, 86, a resident of Las Vegas and formerly of San Antonio, TX, passed away on Sunday at Alta Vista Regional Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Mattie T. Johnson; his wife, Rosetta; a brother, Ernest Johnson, and a sister Louise Field.
He is survived by one son, Kenny Johnson and wife Audrey of Las Vegas, NM; seven sisters, Olga B. Reddrick of Houston, TX, Warnest Bird and husband Samuel, Harvey Lee Johnson and husband Jake, Jonnie Wren Haynes and husband Willie, Doris Haynes and husband Ed, and Theresa Williams and her husband all of Monroe, LA, and Barbara Williams and husband Robert of California; four grandchildren, Tina Gurule and husband Mike, Kenny R. Johnson II, Kelly Leigh Johnson, and Eloy Johnson all of Las Vegas, NM; one great-grandson, Kenny R. Johnson III of Las Vegas, NM, numerous nieces and nephews and a special nephew, Carey McClain of San Antonio, TX.
He was born in Girard, Louisiana on September 23, 1920. He served one enlistment in the United States Army and was a Private First Class with the 268th Quartermaster Battalion. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Medal and was honorably discharged on October 26, 1943 at the McCloskey General Hospital in Temple, TX. He was a carpenter by trade and worked at the military base at Ft. Sam Houston, TX.A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m until 12:00 noon at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations. A graveside military service will be held in the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
