ANNA AMELIA ORDONEZ
Anna Amelia Ordonez, 88, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and dear friend, passed away at her home on Monday following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Lino Romero and Mela Silva Romero and sisters, Marie, Carmen, and Josie.She is survived by her four children, Leo Gallegos and wife Heather of Albuquerque, NM; Carmel (Gallegos) May and Felix Ordonez and fiance' Patricia Baca all of Las Vegas, NM, Blanca (Ordonez) Lucero and husband Tony of Denver, CO; and Florence Smith who was as a daughter of Las Vegas, NM; 10 grandchildren: Neal Gallegos, Michael Gallegos, Anna Marie May, Robert Lynn May, Edward Allen May, Maria Christina Romero, Ana Nicole Vigil, Antonio Lucero, Andres Lucero, Alicia Lucero, Tony Montoya, John, Jaymes, and Emilia; and 13 great-grandchildren: Taylor, Karissa, Charles, Brandon, Nathan, Celeise, Kai, Leo, Francine, Stephen, Dejah, Antonia, and Asriel; and the following nieces and nephews, Jose and Mabel, Polo, Ann, Jan, Jimmy and Wanda, Joanna; great-nieces and nephews: Leo, Christopher, Lisa, Katherine, Michael, and Sandra; and her sisters-in-law, Helen Esquibel and husband Emilio, and Sandra and her husband Robert.
A life long resident of Las Vegas, he was born on July 10, 1918 to Jose Lino and Mela Silva Romero. She attended Our Lady of Sorrows grade school, St. Patrick's Boarding School in Raton, and graduated from Immaculate conception High School in 1936. During her high school years, she was co-editor in chief of the high school newspaper. She was employed by West Las Vegas Schools, East Las Vegas City Schools, New Mexico Highlands University Post Office, and legal secretary to attorney M. C. Armijo. She was a key member during the consolidation of East and West Las Vegas municipalities. She was a life member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Upon retirement she relaxed and enjoyed the company of family and friends. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
A visitation will be held in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations on Thursday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. for family and friends. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church. Father C. John Brasher will celebrate the Mass.
