Arcenio Lucero, 91, a life long resident of Ojitos Frios, NM, passed away at his residence on Thursday surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jose Leandro and Predicanda Ortega Lucero; brothers: Luis, Ruben, Antonio, and Napoleon Lucero; and a sister, Perfetita Padilla.
He is survived by his wife, Esther of 62 years of Ojitos Frios, NM; three sons: Max Lucero and wife Bernice and Raquel Lucero and wife Alice all of Ojitos Frios, NM, and Archie Lucero Jr. and wife Lupe of Albuquerque, NM; one daughter, Vita Quintana and husband Richard of Rio Rancho, NM; one sister, Bennie Benavidez and husband Luciano of Pueblo, CO; 5 grandsons, 8 granddaughters, 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
Arcenio worked at the New Mexico State Hospital as a hospital attendant for 27 years and retired from there on August 13, 1982. He enjoyed taking care of his cattle and spending quality time with his family and friends and going for wood. A rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. from St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. and Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 9:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Father C. John Brasher will celebrate the Mass.
The interment will follow in the Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe Cemetery in Ojitos Frios, NM. Serving as casket bearers will be: Andrew Lucero, Anthony Lucero, Archie Lucero III, Christopher Lucero, Edward Quintana, and Mario Quintana. Honorary bearers will be Alfred Baca and Nick Benavidez.
