El Queno
In Honor of my Grampo, El Queno I have so many great memories of Grampo. Especially, working with him on job sites and seeing him sitting on that roller and operating the lay-down machine. He loved what he did, and I can imagine how good it must have felt to have his sons and grandsons working alongside him. This was my first job and I'll never forget those memories of him. But what really brings me back to the best memories of Grampo, the ones that constantly replay in my mind, are those days in the mid-90s. We lived right next to eachother and I would see him every day. I remember when summer would start, you could smell Grampo's chile roasting. I would run from my house to his. There he was, sitting, looking out of his porch, looking towards the mountains. He was so peaceful, so calm. I would sit there with him for hours. We would talk about so much. I would sit there with him and grandma, KNMX playing in the background. Grandma would give me a fresh tortilla from the grill and grandpa would peel a fresh roasted Hatch. To this day, I have never had a better chile - the hottest, most delicious green chile. It must have been Grampo's touch. Those summer days, talking and looking out that porch will never leave my memories. I guess you could say, food kind of became "our thing". Grampo was an amazing cook. He taught me how to roast chile, he taught my mom how to make red chile which she taught me. And then, of course, my favorite, his Picolada. It became our dish. He would make it just for me when I came to visit. We would share that bowl, bite after bite, as he explained the new ingredient he threw in to perfect the recipe. That Picolada is a sacred recipe and I am proud to say I have it to pass down to my girls, along with all our memories together. Years from now, when my grandkids come running to my house, to sit by me on my porch, and listen to my stories, I will be telling them stories about you, Grampo. So, thank you for every story and every lesson you ever taught me. We love you. Now to all the family and especially to my Grandma, I share with you this scripture: Psalms 17:5-8 "My steps have held fast to your paths; my feet have not slipped. I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me; hear my words. Wondrously show your steadfast love, O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand. Keep me as the apple of your eye, hide me in the shadow of your wings."

To my Crespin familia, my heart & prayers are with you. Arturo was a good man and was always good to me, he always had good consejos for me. An accomplished man who made his mark and then some. Always cool, calm, and collective with a great sense of humor. May his soul rest in peace, I know his memory will live on through the love and strength of his family and friends. God bless.

Moving a mountain
As I prepare to write a tribute, I am reminded that two all-stars are smiling down from heaven (my dad and my Uncle Arthur) giving me the words and the courage to get it right. These two characters were great men whom have left this world a better place. They knew how to provide protect and care for all of us. Nothing will ever be the same and it will always fill as though something is missing. I pray that all of you will let the Holy Spirit fill that void as you mourn the loss of your Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, Uncle, Mentor, and Friend. As I pen this letter to the Crespin's: Uncle Arthur best described it as: "My peeps", "His Tribe" and how he loved all of you. His Peeps were his driving force; the reason he worked sacrificed and loved. To me, he was love in action. Auntie Pricilla and Uncle Arthur came to visit us "his peeps" here in Iowa. I asked Uncle Arthur to bring me something from Las Vegas. True to his generous nature he pulled up in his big bad truck and said hita where do you want them?? Much to my surprise, he brought me the Las Vegas Mountain. In his truck bed were three beautiful moss covered boulders from the mountain. Not many would even bother, but like I said he was not just any man. I did create a beautiful flower bed with the Las Vegas Mountain now residing here in my back yard in the State of Iowa. Wonder what the geologist will make of this in 500 years when they make this discovery (ha-ha). Any way long story short, after my dad went to be with our Lord, I planted a Star Magnolia tree in that garden in memory of my dad. This morning when I went out to reflect and pray it was brought to my attention that Uncle Arthur & my dad are standing watch over me in that very garden . . . Wow God is so good. We all have special stories like that one, so in His honor let us continue to speak and share our fond memories with one another, and in doing so we might just get some much needed healing. Now I know Uncle Arthur was only human and our heavenly father is the only perfect one, but in my mind Uncle Arthur was close to perfect, he was close!!!

Praying God will watch over you as you get through this time of mourning. God promises us this:
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. --- Revelation 21:4

Nature will not let us stay in any one place too long, She will let us stay just long enough to gather the experience necessary to the unfolding and advancement of the Soul.
