Celina Isabel Mondragon, 74, a life time resident of Mora County and a resident of Wagon Mound, NM, passed away Wednesday morning at Alta Vista Regional Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donaciano and Rebecca Mondragon and three brothers: Antonio P. Mondragon, Alfonso V. Mondragon, and Benito D. Mondragon.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Carmen Sedillo and husband Alvin of Albuquerque, NM. She assisted and raised two nephews, Benito D. Mondragon Jr.and Robert E. Mondragon, both of Wagon Mound, NM and is also survived by 12 nephews and nieces that cared for her deeply during her bout with bone cancer.
She was born in Ocate, NM on April 19, 1936 to the late Donaciano Mondragon and Rebecca Isabel Lucero and was a graduate and salutatorian of the class of 1955 of the Wagon Mound Schools. During her younger years she worked as a telephone operator, laundry equipment operator, telephone billing clerk and Santa Clara Parish secretary for 31 years. Her hobbies included ranching, caring for sick animals, care taking, and assisting others. Her main interest was watching over her pet cats and those thrown on her doorstep, and providing information about ancestry and family trees to countless individuals. She enjoyed walking and loved the outdoors. She cared for many sick individuals as a free service to her community and friends. She will be greatly missed by friends and acquaintances.
All services will be held from the Santa Clara Church in Wagon Mound, NM on Friday, January 28, 2011 with a visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Hermanos from the Sociadad de Nuestro Padre Jesus will recite the rosary at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. Father Paul Nkumbi will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow in the Santa Clara Cemetery in Wagon Mound. Flowers have not be omitted but memorials may be sent to the Building Fund at the Santa Clara Church in Wagon Mound, NM.
