Charles “Chuck” Umbarger, 60, a resident of Las Vegas, NM, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Neil Umbarger II and Mary Leona Condon; and by two brothers, Frederick Neil Umbarger III and David Umbarger
He is survived by his wife Mary Lou Umbarger of the family home; two daughters: Jennifer Bassett and husband Justin of Huntsville, AL and Leslie Umbarger of Las Vegas, NM; three sisters: Carol Umbarger of Las Vegas, NM, Marilyn Wright and husband Kevin of Farmington, NM and Janet Grinage and husband Rob also of Farmington, NM; two brothers: Phillip Umbarger of Farmington, NM and Paul Umbarger of Austin, TX; and two grandchildren: Ethan Oschwald of Las Vegas, NM and Emma Bassett of Huntsville, AL.
He was born here in Las Vegas, NM on November 4, 1960 He was a graduate of Robertson High School and received his Associates Degree from Luna Community College. He married Mary Lou Trujillo on August 4, 1979 at Immaculate Conception Church, a relationship that lasted nearly 42 years. He was a registrar for Luna Community College and was a caseworker for the NM Department of Human Services. He enjoyed painting, making jewelry, listening to oldies music and occasionally did stand up comedy while he was at Luna.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 26, 2021 in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the church by Father George V. Salazar. The interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery will the following serving as pallbearers: Leo Trujillo, Larry Trujillo, Paul Umbarger, Ronnie Trujillo, Chris Oschwald, and Ethan Oschwald.
