Christine E. (Evans) Williamson

April 8, 1915 ~ June 20, 2009 (age 94) 94 Years Old
Christine Evans Williamson, 94, a resident of Las Vegas until 1981, passed away at her home in Albuquerque on Saturday evening. She was well-known as the owner-operator of Williamson's Greenhouses and Flower Shop along with her husband, Glado "Blackie" Williamson. She was born in Lufkin, TX on April 8, 1915 the daughter of the late Robert Jehue Evans and Louisa Evaline Gowan. Her father was a chef and baker and Christine and her sisters were raised in the kitchens of bakeries and restaurants leading to her well-deserved reputation as an outstanding cook. During her teen age years in the Great Depression, she was apprenticed to a seamstress and added the skills of tailoring, design, and pattern making to her growing abilities.
In 1938 she married Glado "Blackie" Williamson and remained his faithful partner and wife until his death in 1979. They made Las Vegas their home in 1946 and when they bought property on 7th Street Extension and moved here from Los Alamos. They started building a small greenhouse in 1968 and soon found they were selling starter plants to neighbors without meaning to start a business, but the need was great and they were up to the challenge. By the time of Glado's death in 1979, the business had grown to 25,000 sq. ft. under glass and a booming flower shop and mobile home park.
Christine is survived by her daughter, Georgia Williamson Harker of Albuquerque, NM; three grandchildren, John A. Box of Ruidoso, Cherie L. Buxton of Amarillo, and Robert Williamson (Bobby Box) of Albuquerque, NM; one sister, Ann Anderson of San Antonio, TX; six great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
