Clara E. Garduno, 64, a long time resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away at Alta Vista Regional Hospital on Friday, March 2, 2012 following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents Jose and Maria Carmen Garduno and her maternal grandmother, Margarita Gallegos Gonzales.
She is survived by immediate cousins: Manuel Sandoval and wife Amy of Las Vegas, NM, children Inez Lujan (Paul) and her children Adam, Daniel, Evangelina, and Amor Lujan, Alma Sandoval (Stefan), Audra Sandoval, and Zabrina Sandoval (Jonathan), Raymond Sandoval and wife Louisa of Aurora, CO; James E. Sandoval and wife Alice of Las Vegas, NM, Levi Sandoval and wife Rufina of Chama, NM, Arabella Gallegos and husband Ernie of La Mesilla, NM, Patricia A. Vigil of Albuquerque, NM. She was also survived by many numerous second and third cousins and numerous relatives in San Jose and Albuquerque regions.
She was born in Las Vegas, NM on November 4, 1947 and was raised in San Jose, NM until 1953 when her maternal grandmother relocated the families to Las Vegas for educational opportunities. She graduated from West Las Vegas High School in 1966 and received her degree in nursing from the University of Albuquerque. She advanced toward a career with the New Mexico State Hospital until her retirement after 25 years of service as a Director of Nursing.
After retirement she enjoyed traveling, shopping and spending time with the favorite cousin, Audra Sandoval. She was a devoted Catholic at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. She was free spirit and had a generous personality. She enjoyed her life to the fullest.
A rosary will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church this evening at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. by Father Douglas Mitchell. The interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with the following serving as casket bearers: Shawn Sandoval, Adam Lujan, Stefan Conkle, James Sandoval, Jose Perango, Lonnie Montoya, Ernie Gallegos, and Jonathan Gutierrez.
