CLAUDE S. CHARLTON
Claude S. Charlton, 77, a retired Las Vegas businessman and insurance executive, passed away on Thursday in Santa Fe. He was preceded in death by his wife Fran; his parents, J. I. and Nora Charlton, and a brother, Gordon Charlton.He is survived by three daughters: Claudia Charlton of Bremerton, WA, Lora Conley and special friend John Goodwin of Las Vegas, NM, and Cindy Charlton of Englewood, CO; five grandchildren: Michael Charlton, Brian and Sean Conley, Wesley and Colin Korisky; and three nieces: Janis Charlton Pullen, Phyllis Charlton, and Kevin Yates.
He was born in Amarillo, Texas on July 28, 1929. At the age of two, he and his family moved to Las Vegas, New Mexico. He graduated from Las Vegas High School and as a young man worked at the La Cueva Ranch. He was an eagle scout in the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the 20-30 Club, the Salvation Army, Crime Stoppers Program, the American Cancer Society, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was in the insurance business here in Las Vegas first with the Charlton-Trumbull Insurance Agency and was vice-president of the Foundation Reserve Insurance Company. He married Fran Northrup on June 9, 1949 here in Las Vegas, a relationship that lasted nearly 55 years. She passed away on May 19, 2004. Claude enjoyed loving his wife Fran, fishing, hunting, line dancing, ice skating, and coin collecting.Cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating of his life will be on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at 10:00 a. m. from the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Bill Stroud, pastor of the First United Methodist Church will officiate. Honorary pall bearers will be Lloyd Parham, Larry Brow, Michael Charlton, Brian Conley, Sean Conley, Wesley Korisky, Colin Korisky, Bob Rutherford, Sharon Smith, Susie Tsyitee, Mickey York, Linda and Jim Beck, and Carolyn Vail. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the Salvation Army.
