Cruz N. Lucero, 69, a long time resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday evening at Alta Vista Regional Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nepomuceno and Emma Olguin Lucero and a brother-in-law, Alonzo Valencia.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret A. Aragon of Las Vegas, NM; two daughters, Cindy Wilkett and husband David of Dell City, OK and Tammy Lucero of Texas; extended sons and daughters: Michael Lucero and wife Melinda of Albuquerque, NM, Sandra Jacquez and husband Manuel of Arvada, CO; Benjamin Lucero and wife Rosalba of Westminister, CO, Yvette Rael and husband Leo of Los Lunas, NM; and Jolene Chavez of Albuquerque, NM; 15 grand and seven great-grandchildren; three brothers: Horace Lucero and wife Julia of Las Vegas NM; Frank Lucero and wife Jackie and Miguel Lucero and wife Elvie all of Santa Fe, NM; four sisters: Vangie Valencia of Santa Fe, NM; Marie Anstey and husband Danny of Arizona; Emilia Rivera and husband Gilbert of Las Vegas, NM; and Martha Madrid and husband Rudy of Colorado; numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Cruz was honorably discharged from the U. S. Army on February 9, 1962 in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and served the Hq 25th Div Arty APO 25 and was an avid advocate for the elderly, poor and the needy. He was an active member of Love Your Neighbor and the Samaritan House. He enjoyed his morning with his pals at the round table at the Hillcrest Restaurant. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grand father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was a
member of VFW Post #1137 of Mora, NM and was also a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
A visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. Services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. Cremation will follow the services and the interment will be in the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 9:30 a.m.
The family prefers memorials be made to the Heating and Air Conditioning Fund at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 403 Valencia, Las Vegas, NM 87701.
