Cruz Sandoval, 84, a resident of Albuquerque and formerly of Ribera, NM, passed away in Albuquerque on Sunday following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nestor and Carolina Padilla Sandoval and his wife, Alice Dominguez. He is survived by two daughters, Cecilia G. Griego and husband Alfred and Marcella E. Chavez and husband Sixto all of Albuquerque, NM; one son, Lawrence Sandoval and wife Olga of Tome, NM; one brother, Nestor Sandoval and wife Gloria of Albuquerque; 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was born in Ribera, NM on September 14, 1923. As a young man he worked in the shipyards in California and worked for the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway Company as a machinist for 20 years. He invented a pinon picking machine and was a welder. He retired from active life and had been living in Albuquerque for the past 10 years. A life long catholic, he was a member of San Miguel del Vado Church in San Miguel, NM.
All services will be held at the San Miguel del Vado Church in San Miguel, NM with a visitation there this evening at 6:00 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m.. Father Thomas Kayammakal, pastor of San Miguel del Vado Church will officiate. The interment will follow in the San Miguel del Vado Catholic Cemetery in San Miguel.
