Delia Guara Sisneros, 88 a resident of Las Vegas, NM for the past nine years, passed away at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Alice and James Sandoval on Saturday morning following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nabor and Adelaida Bent Guara; siblings: Amelia G. Rivera, Louis, Henry, and Felix Guara; nephews: Martin Rivera Jr., Isaac Gonzales; brother-in-law Stanley Moore; and great nephew, Lawrence Chavez.
She is survived by two daughters: Alice Sandoval and husband James of Las Vegas, NM and Elizabeth Nichols of Taos, NM; two sisters: Maria Porfiria (Fida) Moore and Margarite Guara both of Taos, NM; four grandchildren: James S. and Shannon Sandoval and husband Jose; Kevin Nicols and wife Jamie, and Kathleen Defnet; seven great grandchildren: Timothy, Jaime, Miquela, Mia, Jeremiah, Samantha, and Elena. Also surviving are her devoted nieces Consuelo Chavez and husband Richard, Naomi Rivera, Rita Mondragon, Matilda Rivera, and other nieces and nephews. Great nieces and nephews include Barbara Rivera, Rachel Mondragon, David and Chuck Chavez, Leonard and Ricky Rivera who recognized her as grandmother. Her caregivers included Lorenzo Martinez, Juanita Tarango, Anna Romero, Regina Catanach, Maria Trujillo, Ella Martinez, and Connie Romero who provided spiritual guidance.
Delia was born in Taos, New Mexico on September 9, 1921. She was raised in the historical district of La Loma later residing in Ranchitos. She worked in the field of dentistry as a Certified Dental Assistant for 29 years receiving training in radiology and also as a Lab Technician. The dentists whom she admired and devoted her skill included James Bayless DDS, Dale Jones DDS, Ignacio Quijada DDS, and Clay Coleman DMD. She was a very caring and dedicated person who is best known for her kindness and patience. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered for her gentleness. Aside from her work she enjoyed working on her yard and displaying her artistic abilities in crafts and ceramics and her love for sports.
Cremation has already taken place and services will be held from Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Taos with a rosary on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. The interment will follow in the Sierra Vista Cemetery in Taos, NM. Father Larry Brito will celebrate the Mass. The family has requested that memorials be made to St. Anthony's Chapel in La Loma, NM in care of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 205 Don Fernando Street, Taos, NM 87571.
