Dolores S. "Lola" Alire, 99, a life long resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Thursday morning at Vida Encantada Nursing and Rehab Center. She is survived by her nephew, Anthony Alire of California; two nieces: Margaret Herrera of Las Vegas and Irene Ortiz of Albuquerque; great nieces and nephews whom she helped raise: Joseph Madrid of Arlington, TX, Kathy Tapia of Las Vegas, Jimmy Madrid of Albuquerque, Corine Madrid, Josephine Navarro, and Carmen Cedeno all of California; and numerous great-great-nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a long time friend, Ana Maria Archuleta of Las Vegas. She was born on May 25, 1908 here in Las Vegas to the late Benigno and Francisca Monroe Alires. She was a sales clerk at the J. C. Penney Store here in Las Vegas for over 40 years. She retired in 1970. She was a foster grandparent and enjoyed arts and crafts. A life long catholic, she was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. A rosary will be recited Sunday evening in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 9:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Father C. John Brasher will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow in the San Jose Cemetery.
