Edna M. Brown (Edna Martinez)

Edna M. Brown passed away after a heroic battle against cancer in her home on November 21, 2010. She was born on September 13, 1928 in Raton, NM to Bertha and Eli Martinez Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband Estus Brown; her so, Larry D. Brown; her grandson, Jason Michael Brown; her father Eli Martinez Sr; her mother Bertha Martinez; here sister Lydia Gonzales; her brothers: William Martinez and Eli Martinez Jr; her brother-in-law, George Lucero; and her sister-in-law, Emma Martinez.
She is survived by her daughter, Wilma J. Brown of Las Vegas, NM; her granddaughter, Reddishann Brown of Florida; her grandson, Gregory Garduno; her great-grandson, Terrell Brown of Florida; a sister-in-law Beatrice Martinez of Grants, NM; many nieces and nephews; and many former students who always occupied a special place in her heart.
After moving to Las Vegas she worked in various family restaurants. She retired from the Las Vegas City Schools and she joined the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce working at the "Caboose" providing tourist information as well as she history of the Original Las Vegas to those individuals who believed that were close to the other Las Vegas in Nevada. She provided the same service for the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce. She enjoyed meeting new people and hearing from her former students. She enjoyed crafting and making quilts for family members' and friends' newborns. She also enjoyed traveling.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. The interment will be in the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 10:30 a.m..
