Edward Martinez Obituary

Edward F. Martinez, 67, a resident of Romeroville, NM, passed away on July 27, 2022. He was born on April 6, 1955 to Bernardo Martinez and the late Maria (Trinnie) Martinez in Las Vegas, NM.  Edward and his family moved to Colorado Springs, CO where he and his siblings grew up. Edward and his siblings had a band called Blue Jays and they were better known as the Los Martinezes.  He loved music and prospered in singing rancheras and playing the guitar.

            He later married the mother of his four sons.  He was so very proud of each of his sons and spoke of them often with so much love.  He moved back to Las Vegas, NM where he had had his only daughter whom he loved very much.  She ws the daughter that he always prayed and wished for.  Edward loved singing and playing the guitar with and for who eve would listen, but  he loved it most of all when he got together with his oldest sister Josephine or his children.  He loved camping and fishing when he often did with his sons.

            Edward worked all of his lift working even two and three jobs at a time.  He retired from the Santa Fe Public Schools in February of 2000.  Edward was well liked and counted on his colleagues, teachers, and principals of the school where he worked.  Edward received letters and awards of appreciations including the Employee of the Year.  Edward moved shortly before retiring with his father, Bernardo Martinez of Romeroville.  He and his father took care of each other and shared their favorite past times of the casino and smoking cigarettes while watching television.

            Edward is preceded in death by his mother, Maria (Trinnie) Martinez; his youngest sister Sandra (Sandy) Cordova and an infant brother Alvino Martinez.  He is survived by his father, Bernardo Martinez of Romeroville, NM; his sons:  Eddie Martinez and wife Valerie, Freddie Joe Martinez, Fabian Martinez, Xavier Martinez and his wife Jennifer, and his only daughter Sara Martinez and fiancé Michael Garcia; his siblings:  Josephine (Joe) Roberts. Rose (Florentino) Cisneros, Bernard (Joan) Martinez, Denise (Albert Louis) Gonzales; brother-in-law Philip Cordova.  Edward was blessed with seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  

            A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd.  Services will be held from Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary on Thursday at 7:00 pm followed by the Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 9:00 a.m.  The interment will follow in the Santo Nino de Atocha Cemetery in La Manga, NM.  Pallbearers will be his six oldest grandsons and honorary the rest remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
