ESTEFANITA VARELA

Estefanita Varela, 85, a resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away on Thursday evening following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adelaido and Vincentita Madrid Baca; her daughters, Gloria Ann and Evelyn Lorraine Varela; her nephew, Danny Baca; and her great-granddaughter, Kailyn Crespin.She is survived by her husband, Vidal Varela Sr. of Las Vegas, NM; her brother, Isa Baca and wife Mary of Albuquerque, NM; her children: Vidal Varela Jr. and wife Lilly of Las Vegas, NM, George Varela and wife Sabina of Texas, Gloria Lucero and husband Lawrence of San Jose, NM, Gilbert Varela and wife Sandy of Rio Rancho, NM, Cecilia Lucero and husband David of San Jose, NM, Ismael Varela and wife Angela of Albuquerque, Patricia Trujillo and husband Anthony and Mary Ellen Crespin and husband Andrew all of Las Vegas, NM; 21 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.In her early years she worked for the Jayval Parachute Manufacturing Company and was a custodial worker at New Mexico Highlands University for 15 years and retired in 1985.. She was a life long catholic and was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. She was a Eucharistic Minister at the church and belonged to the Legion of Mary. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and was a very giving person giving to many charities.Services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary on Monday at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. The interment will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
