Evangeline "Lena" (Jaramillo) Villegas

Evangeline “Lena” Villegas, 90, a lifelong resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away at her residence on the evening of Wednesday, August 17, 2022 following an extended illness.  She was preceded in death by her parents:  Francisco and Guadalupita (Alvarado) Jaramillo, a sister, Anna Jaramillo, a daughter, Rachael Meserve, and a nephew Carl Lindeman.  She is survived by three daughters:  Christina Villegas (Arthur Valdez) of Rio Rancho, NM, Ruth Villegas and Cathy Villegas of Las Vegas, NM; two sisters: Josie Lindeman and Mary Bugarin of San Pedro, CA; brother and sister-in-law, Ramon Villegas and wife Tina of Mesquite, NV; five grandchildren:  John Greenfield, Sarah Meserve, Seth Montano (Melissa), Mariah Montano, and Jonah (Caitlin) Greenfield; two great granddaughters: Cordelia Greenfield and Brynn Montano; nieces and nephews:  Chris (Lorena) Villegas of  Denver, CO., Gerard (Donna) Villegas of Mesquite, NV, Paul Lindeman, Maria Lindeman, Charles Lindeman, David (Renee) Bugarin and Michael Bugarin all of San Pedro, CA.

            She was born on August 10, 1932, here in Las Vegas, NM and received her Associates Degree in Accounting from Luna Community College.  On August 25, 1954 she was united in marriage to John L. Villegas at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, a relationship that lasted 56 years.  She worked at Luna Community College doing payroll until her retirement in 1994. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Daughters of America and her hobbies included praying the rosary, cooking, ministering to the sick, calling the Bingo, reading, and word searches.

            A visitation will be held on Monday, August 22, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd.  Services will be held from Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary at 7:00 p.m.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at 9:00 a.m.  Father Rob Yaksich will celebrate the Mass.  The interment will follow in the family plot in the San Jose Cemetery.  The family would prefer memorials be made to the Building Fund at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 403 Valencia, Las Vegas, NM 87701.
