Flora B. Ortiz, age 103, a life long resident of Bernal, NM, passed away at Alta Vista Regional Hospital on Thursday, July 9, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Ortiz; her parents, Jose Asencio and Benigna Gonzales Benavidez; two brothers, Juan and Adelaido Benavidez; three sisters: Tomasita Sandoval, Senaida Gacia, and Ramona Segura; a son-in-law, Luis Avitia; and grandchildren, Elaine Whatley and Eric Bustamante.
She is survived by her daughter, Ramona Bustamante of Bernal, NM; a granddaughter raised by Mrs. Ortiz, Luanna Bustamane of Bernal, NM and her sons, Dominic Trujillo and wife Kathy an Christopher Trujillo and wife Cindy all of Bernal, NM; grandson George Bustamante of Las Vegas, NM and his sons, Julian of Las Vegas and Sebastian Bustamante of Romeroville, NM, his daughter Natasha Vigil and husband Jesse of Las Vegas, NM; granddaughter Esther Montano and husband Matthew "Non" of Blanchard, NM; granddaughter Elizabeth Baca and companion Jerry Aguilar of Bernal and her son Raymond Bustamante and wife Veronica of Las Vegas, NM and their daughters, Leona Benavidez and husband Carlos of Albuquerque, NM and Ashley Baca and companion Anthony of Las Vegas, NM; 14 great-grandchildren: Julian "JJ" Bustamante, Eric Bustamante, Thomas Vigil, Romeo Baca, Jason Trujillo, Julian Lucero, Mariah Bermudez, Gasmine Vigil, Keanna Bustamante, Amiyan Lucero, Brandi Trujillo, Eternity Flores, Serina Lucero, and Alyssa Lucero and by numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. from St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. A visitation will be held on Sunday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. A parish rosary will be recited Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. from St. Rita Catholic Church in Bernal, NM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. from the Santa Rita Catholic Church in Bernal. The interment will follow in the churchyard cemetery in Bernal, NM.
