Florian Guillermo Castillo, Sr. was born on August 23, 1953 in Tecolotito, New Mexico and passed away peacefully on May 10, 2022 in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Florian attended West Las Vegas High School and graduated with the class of 1971. He then enlisted in the United States Army and deployed to Okinawa, Japan as an Ammunition Specialist during the Vietnam War. After the Army, Florian worked on the construction of multiple bridges throughout New Mexico.
He was a very outgoing person. He loved to play pool, watch the Broncos, and work on projects around the house and in the yard. His true passion was playing the guitar and performing for anyone and everyone. He was well known throughout New Mexico for La Banda Flor, Los Buddies, and Flor y Molly. Florian was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dionicio and Manuelita; brothers: Dionicio Jr., Antonio, Charlie, and Michael. He is survived by his beloved partner, Molly Martinez; brothers Pete and Mauricio and his girlfriend Michelle; sisters: Rumaldita, Ida, Maria, Consuelo and husband Michael, and Michelle and husband Gustavo. He is also survived by his children: Florian Jr. and wife Amanda from Espanola, NM, Gary and wife Julie from Espanola, Joe and girlfriend Connie of Albuquerque, NM, and Eric and wife Amanda also of Albuquerque. He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. from St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. Las Vegas, NM. A rosary will be recited Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church, 811 Sixth Street, Las Vegas, NM with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. The interment will follow in the San Jose Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Florian Castillo III, Fernando Lopez, Angelo Carrillo, Michael Lopez, Aaliah Castillo, and Edward Lopez and Mauricio Castillo Jr.. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Immaculate Conception Church, 811 Sixth Street, Las Vegas, New Mexico 87701.
