Florinda Solano Ulibarri, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Josefo and Pacifica Solano; her husband David Ulibarri Sr.; a son, Joseph Ulibarri; a grandson, Andrew Ulibarri; a granddaughter, Ninja Sauceda; a brother, Moises Solano; and sisters Carmen Salazar, Casilda and Corrine Garcia.
She is survived by her adoring sons and daughters: Connie Ruiz and husband Abran of Albuquerque, NM, Isabel Ulibarri of Santa Fe, NM, Mary Helen Ortiz and husband Roberto of Las Vegas,NM, Evelyn Ulibarri of Albuquerque, NM, David Ulibarri Jr., Irene Ulibarri, Paul Ulibarri, Gilbert Ulibarri and companion Carmela Martinez, and Herman Ulibarri all of Las Vegas,NM, Dwayne Ulibarri and wife Ginger of Albuquerque, NM, and Alex Ulibarri and companion Dana Journagan of Las Vegas, NM; a special grandson whom she raised, Joseph Ulibarri of Las Vegas, NM; one sister, Alice Ortega of Rio Rancho, NM; a brother, Alfonso Solano of Santa Fe, NM; 38 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren..
She was born in San Ignacio, NM on February 6, 1923 and was a long time resident of Las Vegas,NM. She was a devoted member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Florinda enjoyed painting, drawing, and sewing. However, she was best known for her knowledge of herbs and natural medicine, she healed many with her home make "remedios" (remedies). Of all of her many successes the one that she was most proud of was raising a humble, hard-working and honest family. Florinda gave so much to her children and grandchildren; teaching them to preserve their culture and language but most of all their love for GOD, religion and faith. Florinda will be greatly missed by her family but her legacy will never die.
A visitation will be held today from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. All services will be held from Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary this evening at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. The interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Heating and Air Conditioning Fund at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 403 Valencia Avenue, Las Vegas, New Mexico 87701.
