Frank Roberto "Parquette" Marquez, 73 a longtime resident of Las Vegas, NM, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Alta Vista Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bentura and Rafelita Marquez; his sisters, Gloria and Lillian Marquez Vargas; brothers: Carlos Charlie Marquez and Napoleon Marquez; and grandsons, Marcus and Gabriel Grano.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Elaine of Las Vegas, NM; two sons, Ronnie Marquez and fiancé Angeline Casados of Embudo, NM and Dennis Marquez of Las Vegas, NM; two daughters, Lee Belanger and husband Jerry of Loveland, CO and Michelle Marquez of Las Vegas, NM; eleven grandchildren: Daniel, Evangeline, Eric, Austin, John, Lily, Jonathan, Jeremy, Jordan, Briana, and Olivia. One great-granddaughter, Savannah; one brother, Alfred Marquez and wife Priscilla of Las Vegas, NM; two sisters: Beatrice Weiss of San Mateo, CA, and Louisa Hough of San Luis Obispo, CA; and my numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Frank was born on August 21, 1937 to the late Bentura and Rafaelita Marquez in Las Vegas, NM and spent the first ten years of his life in La Liendre, NM at his family's homestead with his parents and siblings. He had fond memories of his childhood that he recalled and reflected upon throughout his life. Frank graduated from the West Las Vegas School System and was truly proud to be a "West Las Vegas Don". After graduating , that pride continued as he was a staunch supporter of WLV. While in high school, he was an athletic standout in basketball, football, and baseball. Frank had an unwavering work ethic which included over thirty years of law enforcement service with the City of Las Vegas and New Mexico Highlands University. Up until 2007 when he suffered a traumatic brain injury, he was working as a dispatcher for NMHU's Campus Security Department. Frank lived a full and complete life. Some highlights include serving as a Volunteer Fireman with the E. Romero Hose & Fire Department; playing softball, where he wore his favorite #10, with the City League; working in his garden; camping with his family; making chile and menudo for special dinners; and sharing life-lessons with his grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, from 10: 00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. All services will be held from Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary on Sunday evening, July 17, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 18, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. The interment will follow in the San Jose Cemetery with the following serving as casket bearers: Jerry Belanger, Jonathon Cordova, Jeremy Cordova, William Marquez, Anthony Marquez, and Kalen Boykin. Serving as honorary bearers will be the rest of his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family has requested memorials be made to the Heating and Air Conditioning Fund at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 403 Valencia, Las Vegas, NM 87701.
