Geno J. Apodaca, 57 a longtime resident of Las Vegas, NM, passed away at Alta Vista Regional Medical Center on Monday, December 7, 2020 following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Jose & Rene Gallegos and Joe and Antonio Sanchez; uncles: Jimmy and Tony Gallegos; one aunt, Tita C de Baca.
He is survived by his parents, Pablo and Angela Sanchez; a sister, Roseann Apodaca Connell and two nephews, Trenten “TJ” Connell and Austen Apodaca, all from Aurora, CO; and father Enrique Apodaca; special cousins, Beth Trujillo and Donna Nieto and many special friends. He was born in Las Vegas, NM on August 2, 1963 and was a custodian for the East Las Vegas Schools prior to his retirement. He was a volunteer fire fighter for the E. Romero Hose and Fire Company and a present member of the Gallinas Fire Department and a member of B. P. O. Elks Lodge 408. He loved to volunteer as often as he could at the Elks Lodge and the Gallinas Fire Department, spending time with family and, or course, watching his Bonanza. We would like to thank the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care Las Vegas for their dedication and always being so kind to Geno. Your compassion was truly appreciated.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December11,2020 at 9:30 a.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Church for immediate family members only. Father Rob Yaksich will celebrate the Mass. Due to Covid 19 restrictions for those attending must wear a face mask. The service will be live streamed via Facebook Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Pall bearers will be
Art Gonzales, Chuck Griego, John Apodaca, Joe Garduno, Justin Martinez, Andres Martinez and all fire fighters will be honorary pallbearers. Cremation will take place at a later date. The Gallinas Fire Department will lead a procession, honoring Geno following the Mass. Family and friends and fire departments are welcomed to join. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gallinas Volunteer Fire Department, 26 NM Highway #65, Las Vegas, NM 87701.
