Gilbert R. Madrid Sr., 75, raised in Las Vegas, New Mexico and a resident of Ribera, New Mexico passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at his home in Ribera, New Mexico from natural causes.
He was born to Cristoval R. Madrid Sr. and Corina Silva Madrid on June 27, 1950, in Las Vegas, New Mexico. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era where he received the National Defense Service Medal.
He is preceded in death by his father Cristoval Madrid from La Manga NM and mother Corina Silva Madrid of Las Manelitas, Brothers Leroy Madrid, Cristoval Madrid Jr, Brother-in-law Bonifacio Lucero, Nephew Leonard Lucero, Niece Patricia Madrid, mother of his children M. Lucy Apodaca
He is survived by his sisters Jane Lucero of Las Vegas NM, Julia Montoya (Tony) of Chapelle NM, Brothers Nick Madrid of Las Vegas NM, Danny Madrid of California
Children Gilbert Richard Madrid Jr (Jill) of Las Vegas NV, Miriam Urquiaga, Julie Jaramillo (Ramon) of Albuquerque NM, Jose Madrid of Las Vegas NM, Mother of his children Lucille Arguello.
His grandchildren Cristobal Urquiaga, Lumarsita Urquiaga, Anthony Madrid, Tristan Madrid, Aidan Madrid, Ramon Jaramillo Jr (Gabriella), Selina Jaramillo, and 2 great-grandchildren Mikey and Sofia Phillips.
Nieces LeEtte Quintana (Jay), Corina Madrid, Lydia Atencio (Daniel), Rebecca Montoya (Lorenzo), Nephews Julio Montoya, Adam Montoya, Billy Madrid, Kenneth Madrid, Michael Madrid, Angelo Madrid and Ryan Gabaldon
A funeral service will be held Thursday February 12, 2026, at 11:00 am at The Journey Church (located at 102 State Rte 65, across from Camp Luna) in Las Vegas, NM 87701. All who knew and loved Gilbert are welcome to pay their respects and celebrate a life well-lived. Reception will follow at The Journey Church followed by the burial at the Church of Santo Nino in La Manga, NM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrier Project in Gilbert's memory. May he rest in eternal peace.
