HERMAN SANDOVAL SR.
Herman Sandoval Sr., 93, a life long resident of Tierra Monte, San Miguel County, New Mexico, passed away peacefully at 7:30 am on Friday, November 3, 2006 at his home. He was a loving husband and a devoted father and he will be greatly missed.He was born in Penasco Blanco, NM on April 25, 1913 to the late Octaviano and Teodorita Cordova Sandoval. He was united in marriage on September 9, 1940 to Maria Simonita Torrez. He was a farmer and rancher of sheep and cattle. He enjoyed caring for his animals and attending the Las Vegas Livestock Auctions every Monday with his one special friend, Luciano Martinez. He also cherished the visits of his family and his many friends. He also worked for 25 years at the New Mexico State Hospital where he worked as a custodian supervisor. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was stationed in France where he served as a barber and military policeman. He was decorated with the European-African Middle Eastern Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the victory Medal. He was honorable discharged on May 29, 1946. He was a member of San Juan Argonne Post #1547 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Herman enjoyed serving along with his wife Maria as Mayordomos for Our Lady of Sorrows Church for many years.He was preceded in death by his parents, Octaviano and Teodorita Sandoval; an infant daughter, Elizabeth Sandoval; seven brothers, Isabel, Eusebio, Patrosinio, Eliseo, Benjamin, Octaviano, and Alfonso Sandoval; and five sisters, Ignacita Sandoval, Carolina Padilla, Pablitia Alle, Juanita Aragon, and Clorinda Sandoval.He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Maria. He is also survived by his 10 children all of New Mexico: His sons, Andrew Sandoval and wife Mary Jane of Tierra Monte, Herman Sandoval Jr. of Las Vegas, Mario Sandoval and wife Debbie of Tierra Monte, Leroy Sandoval and wife Loretta and Jimmy Sandoval of Las Vegas; daughters, Anna Gutierrez and husband Moises of Trujillo, Eva Hertz, Maryann Lopez and husband Joseph, and Rosie Sandoval all of Albuquerque, and Elizabeth Vigil and husband Arthur of Tierra Monte. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Alice Martinez of Albuquerque and Dulcinea Olivas and husband George of Commerce City. CO. A visitation will be held on Monday from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. Services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary on Monday evening at 7:00 pm and the Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. The interment will follow in the San Isidro Catholic Cemetery near Manuelitas, New Mexico.
