As if on the wings of a dove, the life of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Isabel Garduno Chavez was gently lifted from our presence to join her parents and other family members in eternal rest on Tuesday, January 22, 2008. Her pain is forever soothed and she will dwell in the House of the Lord. She accepted the challenges of her life with courage, dignity, and a strong sense of purpose. Her faith in God was constant and unwavering. Isabel was the second born in a family of 19 and was an outstanding role model to her brothers, sisters, children and grandchildren. She served to instill in them, sound and honorable values. She will remains close to our heart in spirit, and we will cherish our memories of her with eternal love.Isabel was born on August 26, 1934 to Geronimo Garduno and Antonia Garcia. Her maternal grandparents are the late Higinio Garcia and Valeria Montano; paternal grandparents, Pedro Garduno and Adela Lucero. She was preceded in death by her father, Geronimo in 1991, her mother Antonia in 2003, her beloved brothers Jerry Garduno in 1986 and Pete Garduno in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her sisters-in-law, Marilla Dominguez Garduno and Beatriz Martinez Garduno, and her mother and father-in-law, Manuel Chavez Sr., and Eloisa Garza Chavez, a brother, Juan Bautista Garduno, and sisters Edwina C. Garduno.She is survived by her husband, Jose Manuel Chavez, Jr. of Las Vegas, NM; one son, Orlando Chavez of Las Vegas, NM; one daughter, Mary Lou Lujan a and a grandson raised as a son, Joseph Chavez of Las Vegas, NM; brothers and sisters and their families: Ray Garduno and Andrea, Helen and Carlos Montoya, Alice Gallegos and Donald, Viola Garduno, Antonio Garduno, Daniel Garduno and Antonia, Edwina Gallegos, Gilbert Garduno, Joe Garduno, Rose Ann Trujillo, and Rose Mary Garduno all of Las Vegas, NM, Della Gonzales and Rosalio of Arlington, TX, Lorraine Hernandez and Fred of Pueblo, CO, and Leo Garduno and Patricia of Los Lunas, NM. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Lisa Chavez, Christina Chavez, William and Krystle Lujan, Brandy and Rosa Benavidez; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers and sisters-in-law, Christobal Chavez of Estancia, Adelina Chavez, Carmen Gomez, Gilbert Chavez, and Aggie Ortiz all of Las Vegas, NM, and Elma Garduno of Thorton, CO;
She received her education here in Las Vegas and was a waitress at the Hillcrest Restaurant for over 35 years. A visitation will be held today from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. Services will be conducted from Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary this evening at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. Father C. John Brasher will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow in the San Jose Cemetery.
