Joe R. Patron, a life long resident of Las Vegas and more recently a resident of Edgewood and Rio Rancho, New Mexico, passed away on January 4, 2011 at the New Mexico Health Care System Assisted Living Facility in Rio Rancho, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel A. And Maria Vigil Patron; his wife, Juanita; sisters: Stella, Mary Patron Sena, and Dolores; and brothers: Ed and Mike Patron. He is survived by his wife Clara Gallegos Patron of Edgewood, NM; son Joseph Patron and wife Billie of Edgewood, NM; a sister, Marcella Patron Salazar of Las Vegas, NM; two grand children: Michel Patron and Daniel Patron both of Albuquerque, NM; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was born on August 28, 1926 here in Las Vegas, NM. He was graduated from Highland High School in Albuquerque, NM and was a World War II Veteran having served with the Headquarters & Base Service Squadron, the 441st Air Service Group of the United States Army. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Army Occupation Ribbon-Germany, the Victory Ribbon 1 and the Overseas Service Bar and served as a radio man in France. He was honorably discharged on October 28, 1946 from the Separation Center at Ft. Sam Houston, TX.
After the service he returned to Las Vegas, NM and married Juanita Ortiz who passed away in 1999. He graduated from New Mexico Highlands University with his Bachelor and Master's Degrees. He taught school in the West Las Vegas School System and was the principal at South Public School for many years. He then moved up to Administration and was the Assistant School Superintendent from 1981 up until the time of his retirement.
Cremation has taken place and services will be held from Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary on Friday evening , June 17, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning, June 18, 2011 at 8:00 a.m. Father C. John Brasher will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow in the San Jose Cemetery.
