JOE T. "JOESITO" SENA
Joe T. "Joesito" Sena, 93, a long time resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Thursday evening at Alta Vista Regional Hospital following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his wife Emma; his parents, Celilio and Andalecia Sena; a granddaughter, Theresa Carrillo;a brother, Desiderio Sena; two sisters, Rose Gallegos and Fabiola Byers; a son-in-law, Luis Martinez, and a grandson-in-law, Timothy Martinez.He is survived by nine children: Anna Martinez of Las Vegas, NM, Leroy Sena of Buena Park, CA, Nick Sena and wife Cathy of La Palma, CA, Marcella Cannone and husband Tony of Las Vegas, NM, Patricia Coull and husband Alex of Albuquerque, NM, Robert "Butch" Sena of Las Vegas, NM, Donato Sena and wife Maria Luisa of Rociada, NM, Cecilio Sena of Santa Fe, NM, Josephine "Chepa" Gutierrez and husband Kiko of Las Vegas, NM; two brothers, Cecilio Sena of Las Vegas, NM and Charlie Thomas of Socorro, NM; two brothers-in-law, Concepcion Madrid and wife Celilia of Tucumcari, NM and Arthur Byers of Albuquerque, NM; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Duran of San Francisco, CA and Eloisa Gomez of Poteet, TX; close personal friends, Angela and Pablo Sanchez of Las Vegas, NM; and by 31 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.He was born in Santa Rosa, New Mexico on April 23, 1914 and married Emma Madrid on August 15, 1938 here in Las Vegas, NM. Their relationship lasted 66 years. She preceded him in death in 2005. He entered the United States Navy and was stationed on the USS Buoyant, the USS Renville, and the U. S. Navy Barracks in Portland, Oregon. He was the admiral's bartender and was stationed wherever the admiral was assigned. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Seaman Second Class from the United States Navy on November 10, 1945 at San Pedro, California. He was a hospital attendant at the New Mexico State Hospital and retiredfrom there after 25 years of service. He was a bartender at the Joe's Ringside Inn, the Order of Eagles and at the B. P. O. Elks Lodge #408 for over 17 years. He was a life member of B. P. O. Elks Lodge #408 of Las Vegas. He was a life long catholic and was an usher at Our Lady of Sorrows Church for many years.A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. Services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. Cremation will follow and the interment will take place on Friday, June 8, 2007 at 1:30 PM in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family has requested in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Heating and Air Conditioning Fund at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 403 Valencia Street, Las Vegas, NM.
