John E. Sandoval, 79, a life long resident of Las Vegas, passed away at Alta Vista Regional Hospital on Tuesday following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose A. and Rosalia Martinez Sandoval and two brothers: Joe Robert and George Sandoval. He is survived by his wife, Lala Sandoval of Las Vegas, NM; his only brother, Max Sandoval and wife Margaret L. Rubio of San Diego, CA; an aunt, Ruth Cabral and husband Frank of Hayward, CA; step-children: Larry Romero and wife Martha, Paul Romero and companion Liz Benavidez, and Corrine Romero all of Las Vegas, NM, Michael Sandoval of Santa Fe Springs, CA, George Sandoval of Hawaiian Garden, CA, Rose Taylor and husband Gary of Lakewood, CA, Marcia Albano and husband Paul of Santa Fe Springs, CA; fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was born in Las Vegas, NM on November 18, 1928 and was a Korean War Veteran having served with the Hq 805 Air Base Group with the U. S. Air Force. He was a graduate of Robertson High School. He retired from the New Mexico State Hospital after serving 20 years as a maintenance worker. He enjoyed fishing and watching football games on television. Cremation has already taken place and a rosary will be recited on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. from St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Father C. John Brasher will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 in the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. The family has requested that memorials be made to the Heating and Air Conditiong Fund at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 403 Valencia, Las Vegas, NM 87701.
