Johnny Ortiz, Jr

Johnny "Papa" Ortiz, Jr., 78, a life long resident of Pecos, NM and beloved husb and, father, and brother, was called to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 14, 2008. He is survived by his wife Dolores of Pecos, NM; and children: Sandra Valencia and husband Clifford, Brenda and Juan, Kenny, and Deanne Martinez and husband Les all of Pecos, NM; grandchildren: Candace, CJ, Ryan, Kyle, Jarel, Kendra, Tyler, Taylor, and Logan; a great-grandson Brandon; one sister, Lucy Varela of Santa Fe, NM; two brothers: Gilbert Ortiz and wife Helen and Andy Ortiz and wife Georgia all of Santa Fe, NM; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine and husband Richard and Betty and husband Frank; brothers-in-law, Gonzalo, Gene, and James and wife Angelica; and by many nieces and nephews and an extraordinary amount of friends.
Johnny was a highly respected businessman for over 50 years as owner and operator of Johnny's Gas, Liquor, and Grocery Store in Pecos. He was a Corporal in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on June 4, 1959. He loved to play cards, ride around Pecos and stop to eat at restaurants. He was extremely kind, generous and so patient. If you were fortunate to have met Johnny, you knew you had truly met an angel. He will surely be missed by everyone. Services will be held in Pecos, NM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with a rosary on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. Following cremation the burial will follow on Saturday in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Pecos.
