Jose Benito. Grine, 91, a pioneer resident of Los Alamitos Road, Holman, NM, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 He was preceded in death by his parents Esequiel and Raquel Mondragon Grine; his sister, Juanita Muniz; and his very special great-granddaughter, Miquela Martinez.
He is survived by his two sons: Polito”Polo” Grine and wife Mildred of Las Vegas, NM and Elias Grine and wife Delma of Eagle Nest, NM; three daughters: Tina Grine Martinez and husband Mike of Las Vegas, NM, Kathy Grine and companion Carl Pacheco of Tucumcari, NM, and Florida Padilla and husband George of Las Vegas, NM; his companion, Ruby Vasquez of Chacon, NM; a sister, Victoria Torres of Cleveland, NM; 10 grandchildren including Michael D. Martinez, Frances Martinez, Jonathan Martinez, Benny Grine, Louie Grine, Andrew Grine, Kimberly Zerangue, Jacqueline Padilla, Eunice Padilla, and Gene Garcia; great-grandchildren, Dario Martinez, Aliana Martinez, Nicole Grine, Gianna Zerangue, Cody Garcia, and Reyes Garcia; and by several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Grine had a quiet personality. He loved his family and did ranch work and logging, was a forest service fire fighter, a handy man and enjoyed carpentry. He was a school bus driver for the Mora Independent School System for many years. He was a World War II veteran and was honorably discharged from the United States Army May 23, 1946.
Cremation has already taken place and a Memorial Mass celebrating his life will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Gertrude’s Church in Mora. The interment will be private.
