Jose Arcenio ""Archie"" Maes

Jose Arcenio "Archie" Maes, 87, a resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Friday following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Carmelita Roybal Maes; a son, Pete Maes; a brother, Elias Maes; and a sister-in-law, Fele Maes. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Paz Trinidad Maes of the family home; five daughters, Teresa Salazar and husband David of Bernal, NM, Dorothy Madrid and husband Eloy and Priscilla Barboa and husband Magdaleno all of Las Vegas; Nancy Burgos and husband Benny of Albuquerque, NM and Arla Maes and husband Karl Sanchez of Las Vegas; two sons, Ernest Maes and wife Gloria of Houston, TX and Pablo Maes of Las Vegas, NM; three sisters: Tillie Escudero and husband Tony and Rosie Maes all of Las Vegas, NM, and Erlinda Roybal and husband Cornelio of Scottsdale, AZ; 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was born in San Geronimo, NM on June 4, 1920 and grew up here in Las Vegas. On November 15, 1943 he was united in marriage to Paz Trinidad Romero in Las Vegas. He was a successful and well-known local rock and mason worker. Besides loving his family and grandchildren very much, he enjoyed horseback riding, the rodeo, his work as well as the mountains and watching wrestling on television. A visitation will be held today from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 pm in St Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. Services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church with a rosary this evening at 8:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. Father George V.
