Joseph T. Sanchez, 69, a resident of Las Vegas, passed away Friday evening surrounded by his family following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Amelia Sanchez; his parents, Jose T. and Antonio Dominguez Sanchez; a brother, Albert Dominguez; his in-laws, Juan and Abelina Beltran; and a nephew, Rudy Conway. He is survived by one daughter, Catherine Gallegos and husband John of Las Vegas, NM; three sons: Anthony Sanchez and wife Kimberley of Alamorgordo, NM, Arthur "Tudy" Sanchez and fiancée Rocky of El Rancho, NM, and Matthew Leonard Sanchez of Las Cruces, NM; five sisters, Bessie Madrid and husband Jim of Rio Rancho, NM, Julia Roy and husband Leroy of Wagon Mound, NM, Ernestine Sanchez and companion Antonio and Priscilla Archuleta all of Watrous, NM, and Geraldine Martinez and husband Mark of Las Vegas, NM; four brothers, Paul Sanchez and wife Angela of Las Vegas, NM, Toby Sanchez and wife Irene and Donald Sanchez and wife Irma all of Watrous, NM, and Gilbert Sanchez and wife Mary of Aurora, CO; one brother-in-law, Joe I. Herrera and wife Angela of Las Vegas, NM; four sisters-in-law, Connie Gallegos and husband Albert, Susie Beltran, and Felicita Beltran all of Las Vegas, NM, and Tillie Dominguez of Watrous, NM; thirteen grandchildren: Marcus Sanchez and wife Amber Las Cruces, NM, Monique and Vanessa Sanchez of Albuquerque, NM, Johnathan and Alyssa Sanchez of Alamorgordo, NM, Arturo, Amanda, Alicia, and Andrea Sanchez of Rio Rancho, NM, Lisa Gallegos of Las Vegas, NM, Francine Gallegos of Albuquerque, NM, Justin Brophy of Ft. Collins, CO, and Kendra Brophy of El Rancho, NM; and five great-grandchildren: Angel Lucero of Las Vegas, NM, Matthew Sanchez of Opelousas, LA, Olivia Gallegos of Las Vegas, NM, and Brianna and Abby Sanchez of Las Cruces, NM, and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was born in Shoemaker, NM on April 6, 1938. He served one enlistment in the United States Army. Shortly after his stint in the Army he married Amelia Beltran in 1958. She preceded him in death last year in October. He worked road construction most of his life and was with the Bridge Crew for the New Mexico Highway Department. He retired in 1985 and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, working on cars, and quality time with his family.A visitation will be held today from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. Services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary this evening at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Tuesday at 12:00 o'clock noon. Cremation will follow the services and the interment will take place at a later date in the San Jose Cemetery.
