Josie D. Romero, 90, a long time resident and Las Vegas business woman, passed away peacefully at Alta Vista Regional Hospital on Wednesday, October 27, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, the honorable Judge Pat Romero; her children: Tony, Eloy, Benny and Jimmy Romero, and Rebecca Maes; her sons-in-law, Daniel Maes and John Bonney; a daughter-in-law, Patsy Romero; and grandchildren Dorothy and Charles Woods Jr.; brothers Lee, Tony, Frank, and Ernest Duran; a sister, Annie Romero, and her mother-in-law Antonia Herrera.
She is survived by two sons: Pat Romero and wife Barbara and Lee Romero and wife Helen all of Albuquerque, NM; six daughters: Frances Lucero and husband Leroy of La Junta, CO, Irene Woods and husband Walter of Salt Lake City, UT, Virginia Bonney and fiancé Joseph Quintana of Tijeras, NM, Yolanda Chavira and husband Luis, Geraldine Baca and husband Mark, and Linda Trujillo and husband Tony all of Las Vegas, NM; a brother, Manuel Duran of Albuquerque, NM; two daughters-in-law, Rosemarie Romero of Las Vegas, NM and Olivia Romero of Albuquerque, NM; four sisters-in-law, Mary Lala Romero and Mary Warsaw both of Las Vegas, NM, Rita Chavez and husband Pat of Albuquerque, NM and Alice Romero of Laredo, TX; 48 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She was born on April 24, 1920 in Belen, New Mexico to the late Frank and Lucia Kavanaugh Duran and was united in marriage to the Honorable Judge Pat Romero on August 28, 1939 here in Las Vegas. She was a life long Catholic and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved traveling with her family and going to the casino. She loved swimming and dancing, and always had a smile. She enjoyed sitting at her computer and playing cards. She welcomed everyone with open arms.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 29, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. from St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. Services will be held from the Immaculate Conception Church with a rosary on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. Father George V. Salazar will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery with the following grandchildren serving as casket bearers: Eugene Romero, Leroy Lucero, John Gonzales, Lucas Bachicha, Patrick Maes, John Bonney, Michael Trujillo, and Patricio Romero. Honorary bearers will be the rest of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
