Julianita Christine “Kiki” Montano, 66, a lifelong resident of San Jose, NM, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 3, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born on May 24, 1956 to Rogerlio and Guadalupe Montano who preceded her in death. Kiki is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Joe Tafoya of San Jose, NM; her daughters: Erica (Michael) and Ashley (Adam); granddaughters: Marissa (David) and Makayla (John Cruz, Jr.) all of San Jose, NM; her great-grandchildren: Amor, Amerae, Azlynn, Antonio and John Cruz; her sisters: Juanita Salinas of Villanueva, NM, Katie Mejillas of San Jose, NM, Toni Montano of San Miguel, NM; a brother Elias Montano of San Miguel, NM; and by several nieces and nephews, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Rogelio and Guadalupe Montano; her sister, Merlinda Montano, and brother Eddie Montano; her special brother-in-law, Frank Mejillas, and niece Eppie Mejillas; her mothers and fathers-in-law, Atilano and Ferminia Tafoya and Tony and Rebecca Lopez.
Kiki was always a jokester and loved telling her jokes. She loved going to the casinos and scratching lottery tickets . She loved to crochet, play cards, going to bingo and spend time with her family. Kiki will be missed dearly, but never forgotten.
Services will be held at the San Jose Church in San Jose, New Mexico beginning with a rosary at 7:00 p.m .on Thursday, April13, 2023 The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated om Friday, April 14, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the San Jose Church. Father Moses Nquando will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow in the San Jose Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Adam Luna, David Maes, Dominic Saucedo, Ben Gallegos, Raymond Hurtado, Manuel Montano, Frances Mejillas, and Gabriel Rivera. Honorary bearers will be John Cruz Guerrero, Michael Martinez, Issac Montano and all her nieces and nephews.
