Julie M. Lucero, 66, a life long resident of Las Vegas, NM and who had been living in Albuquerque, NM passed away at the Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque on Wednesday surrounded by her loving family and friends She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfonso and Mabel Martinez; a sister, Bonnie Martinez; in-laws Nepomuceno and Emma Lucero; and two brothers-in-law, Cruz Lucero and Alonzo Valencia.
She is survived by her husband, Horace Lucero of Las Vegas, NM; two sons, David Roy Lucero and wife Amber of El Paso, TX and Joe Horace Lucero Jr. And wife Charlene of Albuquerque, NM; a daughter, Melissa Lucero and partner Rachelle Ullrich of Albuquerque, NM; a special daughter, Grace Ruiz and husband Chris of Albuquerque, NM; two brothers, Alfonso Ponch Martinez and wife Solie of Albuquerque, NM and Joseph Martinez and wife Lorraine of Bosque Farms, NM; one sister, Anita Sanchez and husband Manny of Albuquerque, NM; two grandchildren, Kiva David Amber Lucero of El Paso, TX and Joshua Rodrigo Lucero of Albuquerque, NM; two brothers-in-law, Frank Lucero and wife Jackie and Miguel Lucero and wife Alvie all of Santa Fe, NM; and four sisters-in-law, Vangie Valencia of Santa Fe, NM, Mary Ansty and husband Danny of Beaton, AZ, Emelia Rivera and husband Gilbert of Las Vegas, NM, and Martha Madrid and husband Rudy of Denver, CO.
Julie was born on December 5, 1945 in Las Vegas, New Mexico. She married Horace Lucero on January 26, 1963 here in Las Vegas, NM. She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister at the church. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the E. Romero Hose and Fire Company and was active at one time with the La Plaza Little League. She was active with the women's Senior Circle at Northeastern Regional Hospital and enjoyed playing cards with the Las Amigas Card Party Group. She was a god mother to over 30 children.
A visitation will be held today from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. Services will be held from the Immaculate Conception Church with a rosary this evening at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. Cremation will follow the services and the interment will take place at a later date in the family plot in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
