Justin Gonzales

Justin Gonzales (92), a pioneer of Variadero, NM rancher, and resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.  He was preceded in death by his parent’s Cleofas Gonzales and Josefita Quintana-Gonzales; four brothers:  Frank, Nick, Abe, and Fred Gonzales; two sisters:  Adelicia Martinez and Senaida Gonzales; brother-in-law: Christino Ortiz; sister-in-law’s: Conferina Ortiz and Benita Ortiz.

            He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Agueda Gonzales of the family home:  son, Tom Gonzales (Thomas Paul) of Las Vegas, NM; a daughter, Della Vaisa (Gary) of Las Vegas, NM; two sisters:  Theresa Quintana of Las Vegas, New Mexico, and Celina Alvidrez of Pico Rivera, California; one brother: Tim Gonzales (Alice) of West Covina, California; sister-in-law: Dolores Griego of Herford, Texas; three grandchildren: Gil Vaisa (Priscilla), Audrey Villarreal, (Christopher) and Andrea Vaisa (Devin); four great-grandchildren: Kylie and Noah Vaisa, and Isiah and Jacob Villarreal.

            Besides his ranching interest, Mr. Gonzales retired from the New Mexico Department of Transportation after serving 31 years.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2021 in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7:00 p. m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 23, 2021 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery in Variadero, New Mexico. Pallbearers: Andrew Quintana, Raul Alvidrez, Gil Vaisa, Noah Vaisa, Christopher Villarreal, and Devin Medina. Honorary Pallbearers: Tim Gonzales, Gary Vaisa, Thomas Paul Trujillo, Pacifico Baca, Eddie Gonzales, Adam Ortiz, Chris Ortiz, Max Griego, Tony Griego, and all his great-grandchildren.
