Kaira Inett (Laws) Gallegos

Kaira “Kay” Gallegos, 79  a resident of Santa Fe, NM spread her wings and flew with the angels on Saturday January 20, 2018 at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital in Albuquerque following a short illness.  She was born on September 14, 1938 in Fulton, KY to Paul and Mary “Blanch” Laws.  She grew up in Albuquerque, NM and in 1961 moved to Santa Fe, NM.  Kay worked at the New Mexico School for the Deaf, retiring in 1999 after 30 years of service.  During her retirement she cared for her grandchildren during the summer and after school, for the past 10 years Kay worked for Joann Fabrics.

            She is preceded in death by her parents Paul and Mary “Blanch” Laws, and the father of her children, Alfred R. “Tommy” Gallegos.  She is survived by her children, Mike Gallegos and wife Jana, and Lynette Ortiz and husband Patrick; Grandchildren Justin Mayrant (Amanda), Amanda Martinez and husband Pete, Cody Gallegos, Charlene Gallegos, Alana Mayrant, Erin Gomez, Stephanie Ortiz and wife Katt; Great-grandchildren: Leland Martinez, Riiley Gallegos, Landon Martinez, James Gomez, Arri Gomez, and Nixi Williams.

            A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 833 Early Street, Santa Fe, NM.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to the Santa Fe County 4-H Council, 3229 Rodeo Road, Santa Fe, NM 87505. (505)471-4711.  The family would like to thank Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital (Hospice Unit) for the Epic care and support they gave our mother during the last few days of her life.
