Kendi Behne, a vibrant and beloved member of the Las Vegas Community, passed away unexpectedly on October1, 2023, at the young age of 36. Born on February 8, 1987 in Liberal, Kansas, Kendi was the cherished daughter of Janice Behne. She grew up in Las Vegas and attended Robertson High School, where her academic and athletic excellence set her apart.
After graduation, Kendi pursued her passion for helping others by earning dual Master’s degrees in Counselling from New Mexico Highlands University. She became a dedicated professional, having her education to guide and comfort those in need. Kendi’s infectious smile and free-spirit personality won her any friends and admirers throughout her life.
Kendi is preceded in death by her grandparents, Manuel Montano, John Pete Silva and Albert and Sue Behne. Kendi is survived by her beloved mother, Janice Behne, as well as her two sons, Jusiah Estrade and Kedan Coca; her brother, Jonathan Behne. She is also survived by her maternal grandmother, Rita Montano; special uncles and aunt: John Gary Silva and Steve and Ellen Montano; cousins: John Manuel Silva and Steve Jr., and Carli Rae Montano as well as a host of great aunts and uncles and their families. They will all miss Kendi deeply and carry her memory in their hearts forever.
Kendi’s sudden passing, her family and friends will always remember her for her compassionate heart, her loving spirit, and her unwavering love of life. Kendi will be profoundly missed, but her legacy of kindness, generosity, and empathy will endure. Cremation has already taken place.
Services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church, 811 Sixth Street at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2023. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Dennis Garcia on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. The interment will follow in the Ojitos Frios Cemetery.
