MANUEL O. MAESTAS

Manuel Orlando Maestas, 69, a resident of Las Vegas, passed away at his home on Friday following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Antonio and Beneranda Gonzales Maestas; sisters, Melicendra Maestas, Louisa Albertina Maestas, and Eleonor Paiz.
He is survived by his life partner, Theresa Gonzales and her children Tracy Gonzales, Stacy Nuanez, Carolyn Sanchez and her husband John, and Michael Crespin and his fiancé, Rosemarie Martinez and all their families of Denver, CO; two sons, Joseph Maestas and wife Yvonne of Evanston, WY and Manuel Maestas Jr. and wife Barbara of Las Vegas, NM; three daughters, Doris Maestas of Evanston, WY, Mona Maestas of Santa Fe; and Perla Maestas of Corrales, NM; the mother of his son, Mary A. Maestas of Las Vegas; step-children who he raised from a young age, Gilbert Maestas and wife Christina and family, Nick Maestas and wife Maria, Diana Maestas and family, Janet Maestas and family all of Las Vegas, NM, Walter Maestas and wife Susie and family of Phoenix, AZ, the mother of his children from his first marriage, Juanita Cordova of Evanston, WY; a special nephew, Andrew Sandoval of Chacon, NM and a special niece, Shirley Sandoval and husband Sam Aragon and Mary Flores and husband Jose of Las Vegas, NM and by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and three pets Pequina, Chiquita, and Tequila.He was born in Chacon, New Mexico on July 3, 1937. For most of his life he was involved in construction and operating heavy equipment having worked for Window Masters, Betty Nelson Construction Company in Cedar Crest, NM; Rudolph Construction Company and laid pipeline for the Brooks construction Company in Wyoming, the Gray Wolf Ranches in Chacon, NM and was a heavy equipment operator in Mora and San Miguel Counties. He was also a law enforcement officer for the City of Las Vegas. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, camping and enjoying the outdoors. He loved to play the guitar and sing.Cremation has already taken place and services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church with a rosary on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. The interment will take place at a later date.
