Manuel Sandoval Sr. 87, a long time resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away at Alta Vista Regional Hospital on Friday following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents: David and Josefita Trujillo Sandoval; his wife, Otilia Sandoval; his son, Jerry Michael Sandoval; and a brother, Apolonio Quintana and a grandson, David Sandoval. He is survived by four sons: Manuel Sandoval Jr. and wife Amy of Las Vegas and their children: Inez Lujan (Paul), Alma Sandoval, Audra Sandoval, and Zabrina Sandoval; Raymond Sandoval and wife Louisa of Aurora, Colo. And their children Raymond Jr., Chris Sandoval (Angela) Edwin Sandoval and wife Hilda;, James E. Sandoval and wife Alice of Las Vegas and their children James Shawn Sandoval, Timothy Ortiz, James Manuel Sandoval, Shannon E. Sandoval and husband Jose; and Levi Sandoval and wife Rufina of Chama, NM and their children Levi Michael Sandoval (Brenda), and Matthew Gallegos; two daughters, Arabella S. Gallegos and husband Ernie of La Mesilla, NM and their children Jennifer Lujan and husband Gabino and Matthew Gallegos; and Patricia A. Vigil of Albuquerque, NM and her children Felicia Montoya (Lonnie), Jonathan Vigil (Kelsey), and Jamie Vigil; two sisters: Pita Aragon and husband Ruben of Ilfeld, NM and Victoria Sandoval of Santa Fe, NM; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was born in Florence, Colorado on November 24, 1921. He was a career man in the United States Army for 23 years and served in World War II and the Korean Conflict as a medical specialist. He was honorably discharged on January 31, 1963 from Ft. Sam Houston, Texas as a Sergeant First Class. He was a member of Post 12 of the American Legion and San Juan Argonne Post #1547 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was employed at the New Mexico State Hospital as a licensed practical nurse for 18 years and was a funeral home attendant at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations for 12 years. In his later years he enjoyed watching Gunsmoke and Bonanza on television and enjoyed raising his children and grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2009 from St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Services will be held from Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Monday at 9:00 a.m. Father C. John Brasher will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow in Mt. Calvary cemetery with military honors provided by V. F. W. Post #1547.
