VIRGINIA R. DURAN
Virginia R. Duran, 79, a resident of Las Vegas, passed away at Alta Vista Regional Hospital on Saturday following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Prudencio and Hilaria Maestas Gonzales; her husband, Jose Ignacio Duran, a brother, Joe G. Gonzales and wife Angie; a sister, Conferina Sanchez and her husband Jose; a son-in-law, Robert Lujan Sr; and four grandchildren: Bobby Lujan Jr., Angela Diane Lujan, Jerry Robert Duran, and Emilio Ignacio Duran.She is survived by two daughters: Rose Lujan of Albuquerque and Angie Duran-Armijo and husband Louie of Las Vegas; one son, Jose Duran and wife Marcella of Santa Fe; six grandchildren: Marvin Lujan, Lawrence Lujan and fiancée Heide of Albuquerque, Martin Chavez and wife Paula, Kenneth Duran and wife Diane, Carlos Duran and wife Shawna all of Santa Fe, and Betsy Christina Sanchez and husband Mike of Las Vegas; sixteen great-grandchildren: Amanda Utter Lujan, Justin Chavez, Raquel Chavez, Joseph Ortega, Christopher Chavez, Bernadette Chavez, Andres Sanchez, Nicolas Lux, Michael Sanchez, Joelynn Sanchez, Alma Sanchez, Jamie Sanchez, Jordan Duran, Jeremy Duran, Santiago Duran and Mia Duran: two great-great-grandchildren, Carlos and Jeremy Utter Lujan.She was born in Las Gallinas on August 14, 1927 and married Jose Ignacio Duran.
A lifelong catholic, she was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Virginia was a cook for the West Las Vegas Schools; was a member of the V. F. W. Post #1547 Women's Auxiliary, a foster grandparent and worked at Don Cecilio and Union Street Schools. She loved to play bingo and go to the casinos and enjoyed hunting, fishing, being with family.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. The interment will follow in the Santo Nino Cemetery in Las Gallinas.
