Maria Porfiria (Lucero) Salas

Maria Porfiria Salas, 89, a resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away peacefully at Vida Encantada Rehab and Nursing Home with her daughter by her side on Saturday, April 29, 2023.  She was born on February 21, 1934 to George and Maria Lucero.  In August, 1959 Maria was married to Florencio Salas in Las Vegas, New Mexico.  She was loved by many who loved her and will be missed tremendously by her family.  Maria was very kind and hardworking with a beautiful smile and most of all like to joke around with you.  In her younger years she loved to cook and bake be with family, play cards, and crochet.

She was preceded in death by her parents George and Maria Lucero, the father of her children Florencio Salas; daughter Theresa Sanchez; grandson, JR Salas; great grandson, Antonio Sanchez; sister, Dora Anay; brothers: Juan (Manuel) Lucero, Jose (Lupe) Lucero, Raymond (Red) Lucero, and Bonifacio (Barney) Lucero; and a special; cousin Carolina Ortega.

She is survived by her son, Eddie Salas (Gloria) of Los Lunas, NM; daughters:  Julie Salas of Albuquerque, NM, Roberta Romero (David), Linda and Grace Salas of Las Vegas, NM; grandsons:  David G. Romero, Angelo Salas, (Candice), Estevan Roybal, Juan Roybal, Daniel Salas,

Raul Salas (Shayny); granddaughters:  Sonia Romero, Leanne Romero (Chris), Monica Salas, Naomi Salas (Eduardo), Ashley Russell  (Cisco), Antoinette Russell (Adam), Rosemary Sanchez (Sam), Ramona Sanchez (Sam), Mia Gonzales; 26 great-grandchildren; brother Arthur (Chupe) Lucero; sisters-in-law:  Frances Lucero, Pauline Lucero, Mary Vigil, Agnes Montoya (Pat); and a loving cousin, Perla Gonzales (Marvin).

            A rosary will be recited on Friday May 12, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. celebrated by Father Rob Yaksich.  The interment will follow in Saint Anthony’s Cemetery in Lasa Vegas, NM with the following as pallbearers: David D. Romero, Diego Romero, Raul Salas, Juan Roybal, Chris Manzanares, and Cisco Archuleta.  Honorary pall bearers will be Eduardo Ramirez, Santiago Lopez, Benito Lujan, and Jordan Jaramillo.

             In lieu of flowers, the family as requested that memorials be made to the Roofing Fund at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Hall, c/o Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 403 Valencia, Las Vegas, NM 87701.  Arrangements are entrusted to Billy G.
