Mary Jean Flores-Ortiz

Mary Jean Flores-Ortiz, 63, a life long resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away at Casa Real in Santa Fe, NM on Tuesday morning. She is preceded in death by her parents:Ignacio and Cleo Flores Jr; son, Anthony Romero; and sister Carmen.
She is survived by her husband, Orlando O. Ortiz of the family home here in Las Vegas, NM; one daughter, Barbara Jean Valerie Flores of Las Vegas, NM; five sons: Emerson M. Romero and wife Patricia of New Orleans, LA, Marcelino M. Romero of Las Vegas, NM, Anthony Flores of Virginia Beach, VA, Joseph Albert Flores of Las Vegas, NV, and Jose Ignacio David Flores and wife Nadine of Las Vegas, NM; Step-Mother Margie Pena of Las Vegas, NM; four sisters: Petra Ulibarri, Patsy Vigil, and Hilda Ramirez all of Las Vegas, NM and Josie Flores-Garcia of Alamorgordo, NM; four brothers: Rudy Flores, Steve Flores and wife Sally, Lorenzo Flores, and John Flores all of Las Vegas, NM; and by 14 grandchildren.
She was born in Las Vegas, NM on January 17, 1946. She graduated from West Las Vegas High School and attended New Mexico Highlands University for two years. She worked at Meadows Home as a certified nurse practitioner for over 12 years. She was a former president of the La Plaza Little League and was a volunteer fire fighter for the U. S. Forest Service. She enjoyed fishing, camping, involved in her kids activities and most of all she loved all of her grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church. Father George V. Salazar will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow at a later date. Honorary bearers will be all of her 14 grandchildren. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mary Jean Flores-Ortiz Memorial Fund at the Community First Bank, 517 Sixth Street, Las Vegas, NM 87701 for the benefit of the La Plaza Little League.
