Mary R. Marquez, 83, a resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Monday at Alta Vista Regional Hospital following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Genoveva Baca Romo; her husband, Filadelfio Marquez; twin-brother, Napoleon Romo and another brother, Christopher Romo, three sisters: Annie Bartz, Nora Romero and Adela Mynugh. She is survived by three daughters: Theresa M. Trujillo and husband Henry of Las Vegas, NM, Mona E. Quintana and husband Sal of Denver, CO and Evelyn Marquez of Albuquerque, NM; four sons: Martin M. Marquez of Bosque Farms, NM, Deacon Marvin M. Marquez and wife Stella of Santa Rosa, NM, Moses M. Marquez and Matthew M. Marquez both of Las Vegas, NM; one brother, Ben Romo and wife Patsy of Las Cruces, NM; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was born in Newkirk, NM on April 15, 1925. She graduated from Santa Rosa High School and worked for the Santa Rosa City Drugs. She was a deputy assessor for Guadalupe County and was an administrative assistant for the first women's County Superintendent Julia Tenorio. She was united in marriage to Filadelfio Marquez on November 14, 1949 from the Santa Rosa de Lima Church. Together they operated he Marquez General Mercantile Store Bar and Dance Hall in Anton Chico, NM up until 1977. She moved to Las Vegas and attended school at the Luna Vocational Institute and worked at the Plaza Drugs. She retired from active life and became a full time granny. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. A rosary will be recited Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. from the same church. Father Nick Nickels, pastor of the Santa Rosa de Lima Church will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Anton Chico, NM with the following randchildren serving as casket bearers: Theodore Trujillo, Jonathan Marquez, Mario Marquez, Damian Marquez, Phillip Marquez, Simon Romo, Michael Quintana, and Jeremiah Marquez. Honorary bearers will be Richard Marquez, Florencio Baca, Tony Marquez Jr., Phillip J. Romero, Amadeo Tenorio, Christopher Madrid, Alex Marquez, Vince Romo, Richard Romo, Henry Trujillo, Sal Quintana, Eloy Aragon, And Ruben Aragon.
